It appears there is finally some warmer temperatures at the end of the cold weather we’ve experienced this week. I know this time has been very difficult for all of us as we have experienced below freezing temperatures, snow, freezing rain and ice. The unplanned power outages and water lines bursting added more stress to an already difficult time.
Thank you so much, citizens of Guin, for your patience with our city employees as we all battled the elements of this winter storm. Last week was some of the most frigid temperatures this area has experienced in years. I also share my appreciation to our street department, police department, fire department and water department for a job well done. They kept our streets clear, the police answered calls checking on many of you, the firemen worked tirelessly into the night cutting trees that had fallen in our streets, and our water department repairing broken and damaged water mains in the below freezing temperatures. The Alabama Department of Transportation pretreated our highways and continued to work with them through out the week and the County Commission sanded our bridges to keep them from being so slick.
A special thank you for your hard work. We often forget our retail stores and restaurants who stayed open to serve our needs from food, hardware and gasoline. Our park and recreation department manned our Collins Life Center Shelter for a warming center and our administrative personnel served as dispatchers manning our phones as the calls came into city hall. Yet through all of last week wintery weather our sanitation department met the challenge and picked up the garbage.
Again a big sincere thank you to all of the many public works departments, county and state departments that went the extra mile to serve us. This week looks great- rest up you deserve it.
