Guin Elementary School

  • MCHS is accredited by Southern Association of Collegs and Schools and State of Alabama since 1978. All criteria for the standards have been met.
  • Designated as an Alabama Reading Initiative school since 2001. The first in our county to become a literacy site. This was accomplished due to the one-cent sales tax for the schools. Reading coach on staff to reinforce strategies learned from ARL
  • Pre-school Program for K year old children through a grant from the Alabama Office of School Readiness. A certified teacher and paraprofessional teach these students. Creative Curriculum (hands-on approach) is used in this classroom
  • Gifted Talented enrichment class for students in grades 2nd through 6th
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) certified teacher for students
  • Computer lab with certified teacher for students in kindergarten through 6th grades. Students learn keyboarding, power point, excel, and others programs and skills
  • Active Parent/Teacher Organization
  • Guidance Counselor on staff to work with individual students, as well as groups for anger management, worries, bullying, etc. Whole group lessons are also taught
  • Federal Programs provide programs for students in areas of need. Title I Reading and Math, Bullying, Too Good for Drugs, Pride Surveys, and results, etc., are some of the programs provided
  • AMSTI (Alabama Math and Science Technology Initiative) trained teacher in 4th grade
  • ALL teachers are highly qualified
  • MCES met the Adequate Yearly Progress each year
  • MCES has consistently performed well on the national Stanford Achievement Test (SAT), the Alabama Reading and Mathematics Test (ABMT), DIBELS, and the Alabama Direct Assessment of Writing
