Guin Elementary School - GESGuin Elementary, Kindergarten, & Pre-Kindergarten Principal, Tracy Brown
Guin Elementary School has also improved from the tax money. They are now an Alabama Reading Initiative Literacy Demonstration Site for the State of Alabama. They were also one of the first schools in the state to have this program. . There is a reading coach on staff to reinforce strategies learned from ARI. This program is now being taught in every school system in Alabama.
Their test scores are also above system and state levels on the Alabama Reading and Math Test, the Sat-10 and the DIBLES test. The school now has a state of the art computer lab with a computer to student ratio of 3 to 1. The school received a grant in 2008 to have a 4 year old pre-school program. It accommodates 18 students with one certified teacher and one paraprofessional teacher. Creative Curriculum (hands-on approach) is used in this classroom. They have also recently been awarded a grant to start an after school program.
Principals at both MCHS and Guin Elementary are very forward thinking and pro active. They both feel that just because we are a small town does not mean we can’t have the same opportunities as children in larger cities. They both work very hard to bring new ideas into our schools.
Special Note: Guin Elementary School is proud of offer registration information forms for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library presented by “Local Champion”. This program is offered for Preschool children ages birth to five.
